Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) for adults is one of the most effective forms of self-defense.

We have classes for the beginner to the pro.  In our adult’s class we focus on the fundamentals to make sure everyone is learning safely and build a strong foundation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu knowledge.  For those seasoned competitors, the John’s Gym Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team is comprised of THREE separate gyms, consisting of a range of varied teammates at all skill levels.

Do you have classes for beginners?

Yes we do! We have an all-levels class on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 12pm and Saturdays at 1030am! Here's the schedule.

Do I need to be in shape before joining?

John’s Gym Liberty Hill has teammates of all shapes and sizes.  Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will help you get into the best shape of your life. The only secret is to show up.

Will I learn how to defend myself?

Absolutely.  At John’s Gym Liberty Hill we teach the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  These fundamentals will help in a majority of self-defense situations all the way from a standing encounter and to the ground.  We don’t teach theory or practice katas.  John’s Gym Liberty Hill also has numerous active-duty Police Officers training. The skills they learn in the gym directly impacts their ability to keep themselves and others safe on the streets.

Will people try and hurt me?

We provide a safe environment for all skill levels and ages.  You are welcome to choose your training partner, so you never feel uncomfortable.  It is impossible to do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu alone so keeping you and your partner safe is so important.  We believe in the power of the tap! In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu when a submission is imminent, you can simply say ‘tap’ or literally tap your partner!  After the tap you and your partner can begin the drill or sparring round again!

How many people are in class?

This is a great question! Our class sizes can range from a few teammates to over 30! There will always be someone for you to train and learn with!

Do we spar/roll in class?

Yes.  Our adult classes include positional/specific training in certain positions during class time and live sparring towards the end.

Will I be able to train with professor?

Yes. Each one of our Coaches trains/spars/rolls with everyone in class ensuring you're getting the best possible instruction and training at every level.  In most cases, your very first live sparring round with be with a head coach!

Will I be able to compete?

Absolutely.  John’s Gym Liberty Hill has coaches with competition experience over a number of years of consistent training.  The John’s Gym association consists of THREE different gyms.  John’s Gym Austin, John’s Gym Georgetown and John’s Gym Liberty Hill.  The John’s Gym team consistently wins local Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments for kids and adults! We can help you achieve your goals if competition is your focus!

Am I too old to start?

At John’s Gym Liberty Hill our oldest member is 65! It is never too late to better your health through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and improve your life.  If you have a physical ailment, talk to our Coaches! Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques can be modified in many ways to accommodate different body types and sizes!

I've been going to the John's Gym Liberty Hill location for about 5 months now (as a complete BJJ rookie), and have loved every minute and day I've trained. Coach Alex, Nate, and Z make it easy for beginners to learn in a non-intimidating setting, no matter how skilled they themselves may be. I've been attending John's Gym Liberty Hill for about 5-6 months now. I was going in with prior experience and can say with confidence that the two lead instructors, Coach Nate and Coach Alex, are very technically savvy and amazing teachers...
