ABOUT NATE NELSON
Head Adults Coach/Co-Owner
Nate first began training Martial Arts in Denver before moving to Austin in 2014 and became a member of John's Gym Austin. It was there that Nate fell in love with Jiu Jitsu and found himself as a Coach and competitor.
In 2016 as a blue belt, Nate became the Level 1 Fundamentals Jiu Jitsu coach for adults at the Austin location. This was a new program that he would develop and evolve under John's guidance. Nate has a passion for helping others discover the art, and a great ability to relate to his students. Nate takes a lot of pride in his coaching and spends just as much time working on his coaching abilities as he does his own training.
With dedication and a heavy training regimen, Nate earned his black belt under John in 2023.

Off the mats, Nate is a father, a husband and provider. He has two kids and resides in Leander. Nate is a leader in the technical industry where he has been working over 20 years. When Nate is not on the mats or on the computer he is spending time with his family at home, at a sporting event or at the family's ranch in South Texas. He enjoys the outdoors and all things related to sports.
The friendships developed at Johns Gym are priceless and become family. As an example, Nate recently got married and 3 of his teammates and his Coach John were in the wedding party! His wife Z also trains at Johns Gym as a purple belt.
